Amazon recently announced updates for its Kindle iOS app designed to make it more accessible for blind and visually impaired users. Drawing on Apple’s VoiceOver tech, version 3.7 introduces a new read-aloud feature for almost 2 million titles in the Kindle Store. In addition to the read-aloud capability, navigating within a book, sorting and searching for books in the library, consulting the built-in dictionary and more actions are supported by this update. At present, the iOS app is the only Kindle reading technology to get this feature, but Amazon hopes to roll it out to other devices and operating systems soon.
