If you watch the Today show, then you are familiar with the anchor Savannah Guthrie. You might be aware that she recently experienced severe eye trauma. Her retina was damaged when her 3-year-old son Charley stabbed her in the eye with a toy train.
Guthrie, 48, hoped to avoid surgery and vision loss, but laser treatments were unsuccessful, and doctors decided a full retinal surgery on her right eye was necessary.
“The retinal tear had deteriorated sharply, and I lost my vision,” said Guthrie. “And that’s what happens if you don’t fix this: You lose your sight.”
The San Diego Center for the Blind can help you or a loved one regain your independence. Our vision rehabilitation programs can improve your quality of life.
