What Does It Really Mean To Be Legally Blind?

BlindfoldIt's actually not your doctor who defines whether or not you are legally blind.  It's the United States government.  This designation is critical to the ability to receive disability benefits and other accommodations.

Whereas normal vision is 20/20, blindness is legally defined as having 20/200 vision (or worse) in your better eye, or having a field of vision under 20 degrees.

Incidentally, of people with eye disease, only 15% are totally blind, meaning they can see no light at all.
